Name: Kevin McPherson
Role: Field Editor
Favorite Revolver: S&W 625 (.45 Colt) Mountain Gun, lightly tuned by Dwayne Worley
Kevin’s dad was a hunter and shooter and introduced him to revolvers at an early age. His first revolver rounds fired were through his dad’s Ruger Single Six. He got to fire his first centerfire rounds through his dad’s Security Six when he was 12. Shooting those dozen wadcutters is one of Kevin’s best memories, and he was hooked. His first revolver was an H&R 903 9 shot .22 LR; its horrendous D/A trigger pull helped him to become a better shot with virtually everything else. Kevin carried a custom 5” 686 when he attended the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy in 1988. He attended the NMSP 50thRecruit School a few years later in 1991. His was the first class to be issued the S&W 4506, but many of the men he looked up to still carried revolvers on duty then. He shot in a few PPC matches early in his career and picked it up again decades later when the NRA held the NPSC in Albuquerque. Kevin was the armorer and lead firearms instructor for NMSP for 13 years and has been a firearms Instructor since 1994. He served on the NMSP Tactical Team for 10 years and was the first Commander of the NMSP Pistol Team when it returned from long hiatus in 2008. He carried a semi auto for most of his career, but his last days before retirement saw a 629 Mountain Gun in his duty holster. His first article was published in 2006 and was (fittingly) about an old S&W Model 19. He has written for the American Rifleman, SWAT Magazine, American Cop and several digital titles. Kevin is proud to be associated with the high caliber men here at Revolver Guy.
