DB&Y spent an hour-plus discussing the evolution of the Smith & Wesson Mountain Gun concept in this first episode, culminating with the Lipsey’s Exclusive 629 Mountain Gun, which was released last month at the 2025 SHOT Show.

The Fighting Guns Podcast is currently only available on the AFR Official YouTube Channel, but Bryan is working on  publishing it as an audio-only version, so stay tuned for that.

    1. Thanks Brett, I’m looking forward to that, too. I listen to lots of podcasts while I’m doing other stuff, and would like to add this to the rotation. I know Bryan is working on it.

  1. Thanks for posting this one, Mike. The guys at AFR put out some good info in this podcast episode. DB’s philosophy on the Mountain Gun as a Model 24-3/624 that you can carry and shoot makes sense. It’s not a gun you will shoot much full house magnum stuff through, but most sixgun chores don’t need that kind of power. Bryan’s explanation of the flash chrome hammer and trigger was very helpful too. I kept looking at that trigger with the cavities on its backside, thinking that’s a MIM trigger. It is, but with enough surface chrome plating that you can actually tool it a bit. I enjoyed their sit down. Good stuff!
